The Second Source

The Second Source was founded in the wake of #metoo to provide an alternative network for women in the media.
It seeks to promote awareness, offer community, training and support, and work with organisations to create change.

150+
Young journalists mentored
Our mentorship schemes have paired hundreds of early career journalists with media leaders.
10+ events
From training to meetups
We’ve hosted expert webinars, career seminars, specialist training and more.
Cross-party
Political engagement
Our launch attracted cross-party support. We’ve advocated with politicians and industry bosses.
Our team
The women behind The Second Source come from all parts of the media, from digital outlets to national newspapers and broadcasters.
We aim to create a supportive community inclusive of women and non-binary journalists, whatever their background or role in the media.

What we can offer
If you’ve suffered harassment at work, or want to be involved in changing our industry for the better, we want to help. While we can’t intervene directly, we can:
- Point you to the right resources
- Help you find an independent third party who can offer assistance
- Offer support and a listening ear
- Give you a way to meet other journalists
- Invite you to our events and help you network
If you’re a company who wants to tackle harassment at your title, we can:
- Point you towards model harassment policies
- Talk to you about what works and what doesn’t
We don’t release names, and treat all stories as confidential.
You can also come along to our next event to meet other women and nonbinary journalists as part of our supportive community.

Work with us
Our launch garnered cross-party political support and we’re pleased to have worked with organisations from large corporates to small campaigning groups.
